        Abstrak

        Bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum (wight.) Walp.) are known empirically as a hair-fertilizing plant and preventing hair loss. Hair tonic is a cosmetic preparation in liquid form, which is a mixture of chemicals and/or other ingredients used to help strengthen, improve growth and maintain the condition of hair. It is made in a hair tonic preparation because it is in the form of a solution so it is easy to apply and is not sticky like semi-solid preparations so it does not leave a crust which can trigger the formation of dandruff. This research was carried out experimentally including making simplicia, characteristics of simplicia, phytochemical screening and evaluating the physical quality of the preparation. Tests on preparations include organoleptic, pH, stability, irritation and preference tests. The results of phytochemical screening research show that fresh bay leaves, simplicia powder and ethanol extract contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids/triterpenoids and glycosides, and can be formulated into hair tonic (EEDS) that meets physical quality requirements.
